The Wheatsheef, Hibaldstow – 4th November 2011

Posted by John on 5th November 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

This was our first visit to the Wheatsheef and we had no idea what to expect.
First impressions were of the size of the playing area and ‘how the hell are we gonna fit in there??’
Although it’s a really nice place, it isn’t laid out with live music in mind and the area we had to set up in was scarily small.
Loose Ends are a determined band though, so with some creative arranging of gear and a collective breathing-in, we managed to squeeze ourselves in.

It’s a good thing we did too, because the Wheatsheef turned out to be a really good gig. We had a great time; the crowd were very loud and we always love to see them dancing!
We’re looking forward to coming back in the near future (maybe with some smaller amps!).

Anyway, that’s us done for another week.. Come and see us next Saturday (12th Nov) at Warren Lodge in Scunthorpe.

Lucarly’s, Grimsby – 29th October 2011 (private party)

Posted by John on 5th November 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

A local gig in a big room with a good size stage.. We’ve been looking forward to this!
The party was a joint 30th birthday bash for some nursing friends of Pete’s – Drunk nurses partying, should be interesting..

With plenty of space on stage, we were able to use pretty much every bit of gear we have.. Lots of lights and lots of noise!
Early entertainment was during the sound-check when I had to keep jumping on and off the 3 foot high stage to listen ‘out front’.. Not easy while trying to play a Gary Moore solo!

Anyway, having survived the acrobatics, the party soon got underway and we played our usual 2 sets, supported in between by the resident DJ.
As expected, the crowd were full of.. er, alcohol, and really got into it.. (Even generously overlooking my Les Dawson moment on the keys early on in the set)
The audience seemed to enjoy the show, we definitely did.. Plus, it made a nice change not to have to drive for an hour or more after the gig. 5 mins and we’re home!

Our next outing is at a new venue.. Come and join us at The Wheatsheef in Hibaldstow (near Brigg) on Fri 4th November.

Black Bull, Burton Pidsea – 22nd October 2011

Posted by John on 24th October 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

This was our first time in Burton Pidsea and quite a trek to get to, over the bridge and down some very twisty back-roads.

When we arrived they were just finishing off what looked like a very tasty carvery.. Pity we had work to do, it would have been nice to sit down to a plate of roast beef!

Although there wasn’t a lot of room, we managed to get set up and sound-checked without any major problems.
There weren’t many people in to begin with, apparently quite a few were away at a ‘do’, but it livened up as the night went on and they turned out to be a really good crowd.

Special thanks to you die-hard fans who made the trip over to see us here.

Overall, a good gig, despite the long distance, so expect to see us back there before long.

Next stop Lucarly’s in Grimsby for a private function.. Then out to the Wheatsheef at Hibaldstow for another new venue on Nov 4th.

Liberal Club, Crowle – 15th October 2011

Posted by John on 17th October 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

Third time out with the new line-up and we’re starting the get the hang of it..
We had a few gremlins with sound and Pete’s in-ear monitors early on, but got there in the end.

As usual, the place wasn’t exactly heaving to begin with, but the locals started to arrive as the night wore on and by the end we had a cracking audience and some very entertaining dancers ;)

Keep an eye out for us coming back next year.

Our next outing is another new venue, The Black Bull at Burton Pidsea.. We’re looking forward to making some new friends out there :)

The Woolpack, Brigg – 8th October 2011

Posted by John on 10th October 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

A wet and distinctly autumnal evening saw our return to the Woolly..

This has always been one of our favourite gigs, but sadly tonight was to be the last live music at the venue for the foreseeable future as John, the landlord, is moving on and the future of the pub remains uncertain.
We hope live music returns to the Woolly soon!

With Andy back with us for his second gig on guitar (complete with newly bleached hair!), we were ready to go out with some noise.. We were especially pleased that Ray was able to come and support us as well.. It was a unique experience for him to be able to hear the band from the audience!

The crowd were rowdy as ever, and we had a fantastic gig.. We finished up with an impromptu rendition of Led Zep’s ‘Rock & Roll’ (which Andy had never even rehearsed) as a tribute to John the landlord, who we wish the best of luck to for the future..

Our next outing is to the Liberal Club in Crowle on Oct 15th..

Bevvy Bar, Hull – 7th October 2011

Posted by John on 10th October 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

Back across the bridge to Hull for a return to the Bevvy and our first gig without Ray..
We had a few minor technical hurdles to overcome as we adjusted for the new set-up, but aside from the usual delay in the Bevvy while they watch the footie on the big TV’s, things went fairly straightforward.

Once we got underway, everything went very well… Much better than we could have expected, given the limited amount of rehearsal we’d managed with Andy, which just goes to prove what a top musician he is.. He’d only had one full rehearsal with the band at the beginning of this week!
Nevertheless, we rocked the Bevvy and had a blast :)

Back to Brigg tomorrow to the Woolpack.. Bring it on!

Old Clee Club, Grimsby – 25th September 2011

Posted by John on 10th October 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

This was an unexpected bonus gig at the Old Clee due to a cancellation.
Plenty of room on the stage and a nice big room help make this a nice place to play, especially as it’s the closest gig to home for most of us..

This was to be the last gig with Ray as he steps down temporarily for personal reasons. I was feeling a bit under the weather after a bit too much of a good time the night before, but we had a good gig nonetheless.
I’m even getting used to the bingo between sets.. ;-)

Despite their bingo addiction, the audience in the Old Clee are an enthusiastic and appreciative bunch and we had a cracking gig.. I must admit I was flagging a bit by the end, but didn’t mind coming back for the 3rd encore..!

We’re looking forward to coming back in January next year.

Our next outing is the Bevvy Bar in Hull when we’ll be introducing Andy who will be standing in on guitar for Ray over the next few months.

Bluestone Inn, Immingham – 6th August 2011

Posted by John on 12th August 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

When we walked into the Bluey we were dismayed to discover a hen night gathering.. Lots of excited, tipsy young ladies getting ready for a mega-party.. How awful for us..!? ;-)

Sadly.. er, I mean happily, however before long the party climbed into a disco coach and headed off to terrorise some other drinking establishments, leaving us in peace to finish setting up the gear.. Phew!

After a quick sound-check we got started on what turned out to be another fantastic gig in the Bluestone. Despite the fact that it was absolutely pouring with rain outside, the place was packed and the crowd brilliant.. Thanks to the dancers who kept us entertained :)

Hopefully we’ll be back in the Bluey again soon, although it probably won’t be with Ray for a while.

We’ve got a few weeks off now while some of us take holidays in the sun. You can catch us next in Hull at the Bevvy Bar on Friday 7th October.

Old Clee Club, Grimsby – 31st July 2011

Posted by John on 12th August 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

Having already had two very loud, rocking gigs this weekend, the Old Clee Club was a definite change of pace..

Although most of us have been here before in years gone by, this was the first time here for us as Loose Ends.
The drop was easy, straight through the fire door and onto the stage.. I wish they were all like this!

Although last night was supposed to be Ray’s final gig, he’s decided to play a couple of extra gigs, so we were pleased to have him with us :)

We have to turn down the volume a bit, and avoid some of our heavier numbers in Club-land, but we still had a good time and the crowd were a great bunch.
I’ll still never understand why anyone would want to play Bingo though..

Back to normal volumes next weekend at the Bluestone Inn, Immingham.. See you there :)

The Woolpack, Brigg – 30th July 2011

Posted by John on 12th August 2011 in Loose Tools Tour Diary!

It seems like absolutely ages since we were last here at the Woolly..
In fact, it’s been just over a year, so it was especially good to be back in one of our favourite venues.

We know our way round here, so set-up went pretty smoothly.. Apart from some emergency surgery to re-attach the antenna to Pete’s in-ear monitor pack – soldering-iron to the rescue!

Last time we were here the recession really seemed to be biting hard and crowd numbers had been dwindling, but if tonight’s crowd were anything to go by, things are improving.. The place was packed and the audience were really rocking.. Great stuff!

We really enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and it was great to make some noise with our friends in Brigg..
Let’s not leave it so long next time..!

:)
